Great reviews for Devil Music!

Randall standing at High Cotton

Devil Music is another stellar release for Randall – and reviewers agree!

“Always surprising and impressively inventive, Devil Music is the most original, most authentic album to drop this year and an enjoyable listen.”   Blues Rock Review

“It is a full-on, song-filled album that will bring you joy upon repeated plays, and it will surprise you.”  Dave DiMartino, Yahoo Music

“See this guy? He’s only one of the most original and profoundly satisfying artists around today. Bramblett has fashioned a post-Americana statement of profound proportions.”  Mike Greenblatt, Goldmine Magazine

“Written, produced, sung, and played with unique perspective and awesome pizzazz, this highly inventive Devil Music is incredibly cool to just sit back with and enjoy.”  Tom Clarke, Elmore Magazine

“Devil Music” exemplifies more than ever what a significant and important musician we have in Randall Bramblett.”   Wildman Steve, The Corner News

“A dark, swampy groovefest.”  AllMusic.com

“It distills the inclinations of a man who may not have been born into the blues but who connects with them on a soul level.”  Indy Week

“Wrap all this up and you have a nasty little delicacy of an album from one of the most prolific and uncompromising Southern voices of our age.”  Lexington Herald

“Randall Bramblett continues to carve out his Classic City legacy with album after stellar album of rootsy rock and roll. This album further codifies Bramblett’s distinct Deep South groove and reminds us that’s he’s still, after all these years, one of our state’s most vital working musicians.”  Flagpole

“Dynamically delivered.  It comes across with both grit and a groove, darkly defiant and yet impressively authentic.”  Glide Magazine

“Devil Music is just the latest jewel in the crown of Bramblett’s incredibly prolific career. To have such an extraordinary voice from the South who holds the past in reverence but is not trapped by it. It is a true treat.”  Bruce Yandle, Making a Scene Magazine

Devil Music ready for pre-orders. Releases Sept. 18

DevilMusic_Cover-sm

Randall’s 10th release, Devil Music, pulls from a deep well. It embodies the authentic roots of American music, brilliantly blending them into this soul-drenched album. Special guests who appear on this are Mark Knopfler, Derek Trucks and Chuck Leavell. The title track refers to Howlin’ Wolf’s meeting with his estranged mother, who turned him away for playing “devil music.”  He read that story in a book about Wolf and was able to ask Hubert Sumlin if it was true. He said it was and Wolf did cry all the way to Memphis.  Some songs sprang from the tug-of-war between blues and religion, salvation and damnation. Bramblett says of this album. “It’s my experience of black and white culture in the south, and how it feels to grow up here with all the religion and pain and conflict and joy — and then there’s all that dancing…”  Pre-orders taken now at the Shop, they will ship to arrive Sept. 18.

Bettye LaVette, a legendary force in soulful R&B, released a new album Jan. 27 produced by Joe Henry.  She drew from a powerful group of songwriters and chose “Where A Life Goes” from Randall’s Now It’s Tomorrow CD for the album. She dedicated this to her sister.  Powerful and beautiful.

RBB records in Nashville studio with engineering legends

Recording with Engineering legends in Nashville.

The RBB is working on a new CD and have involved top-level talent. They were chosen to be the recording artists in Nashville for a new book/DVD on sound engineering coming out soon. Randall said it was the most exciting session I’ve ever been involved with. Chuck Ainlay (Dire Straits, Eric Clapton,Vince Gill, more )  and the team were fantastic. They seemed to really like our stuff and we loved what they did for our sound. It was huge and beautiful and inspiring.  We cut two of our new songs in one day filled with interviews and videos of different microphone placement and other tips for budding engineers.  The people in the photo are (left to right) Elliot Scheiner, Brandon Schexnayder, Dylan Hansen, Randall Bramblett, Davis Causey, Michael Rhodes, Chuck Ainlay, and Ed Churney.  What a privilege to work with these folks!”
